Based on the gears of war map canals
My first attempt at source mapping, soon also available in DOD-source flavour. Comes with a tweaked bot nav file. find us at WWW.FPS-UK.NET
I'm considering adding stairwells to the ends of the long hall and creating a room network above leading to the bomb site, this might aleviate the need for another bomb site and will give the desired alternate routes.






A second site I guess could be placed beneath the middle bridge. They are close enough for travel time and its still a central location, exposed for the plant yes, but still even more so for the defuse so balances out.
Under of over the bridge, either would work. But shielded from the above tower may be better.
I have watched this map evolve from day 1 and know the amount of work that was put into it's making. It's nice to see the constructive comments made. After reading about the 1 bomb site I must agree but I don't know where a 2nd site could be placed. Cracking map Pezza and I will upload it before weekend m8 (hopefully tonight) ;)
Thanks for comments guys, I think the problem I have is that i don't play CS very much, I can see now that 2 ladders may be a problem so might tweak on V2, I have already added areas beyond the last bridges on the dod version i'm working on now so maybe i'll add those also later on. keep on posting peeps i'll never get better if i'm not given honest constructive feedback. thanks again. Ah, Gears of War. Nice little remake, didn't even notice the connection from the screenshots, once loaded into the game however I picked up on that right away.
Very nice recreation, visually it looks fine, gameplay wise I have one issue though, there is a single bombsite and to get to it you need to use two ladders, there is no other way that I can see to get to that height, which makes it incredibly unfair to which ever team first gains control of the site, they can camp and kill anyone that comes up before they get a shot off.
That hurts the map a lot, the layout is still pretty much the original GOW map but with your new areas which are neat.
The soundscape you have is a tad overbearing after a while, little too loud and constant. Some inside and outside soundscapes would help with that, just to remove the repetitiveness of it.
Other than that, use of textures, decals, overlays, brushwork and models is fantastic. models just seem a tad spammed at the bombsite but the rest of the map makes up for that.
The map doesn't really need a 3d skybox because of the high buildings covering most of it anyways but for the canal exits on either spawn, some sort of extension to show it continuing would be good.
For your first source map, not bad but could be better of course :P
There hasnt been many maps lately that have grasp my attention but this is really good especially for a first attempt, plus all credit for making a proper map and not something which tends to be easier like a smaller based fy/aim/gg etc
