Installer for compiling and decompiling in SourceSDK

-= SourceStudio v1.3 for SourceSDK =- Please read and follow the instructions to ensure both programs work

SourceStudio contains: -StudioCompiler v0.3a -MDL Decompilver v0.5.2 Fixed by Erix

  • !IMPORTANT - You need to have previously run the game you want to modify in order for parts of the installer to work! COMPILING MODELS SHOULD BE DONE WITH WUNDERBOY'S GUI StudioMDL INSTEAD!

-= Change log v1.3 (10/10/2010)=- - UPDATED: Steam account detecting logic - FIXED: SourceStudio compatibility with Steam - REMOVED: Support for Source Engine 2006 and 2007. Reason: Everything is under OrangeBox engine now - REMOVED: Half-Life 2 Deathmatch - REMOVED: Option to Install for Orange Box or Episode 1 Reason: Both programs can only run under Episode 1. Functionality still the same. - IMPORTANT: Compiling is no longer relevant to these applications. Use GUI StudioMDL instead. See above for details

-= Change log v1.2 =- - Added a function that automatically changes the SourceSDK game to the chosen game - Added a function that, depending on which game you choose, will go into the folder and change its GameInfo.txt to read "ToolsAppId -211"

The programs should now work right off the bat.

-= Description =- This is just an installer i made with the versions of MDL Decompiler and StudioCompiler i have, along with several instructions and shortcut making.

I made it because i found it a pain to always set it up if my computer went into troubles and things got messed up for whatever reason, or i just forgot how to do it.

It contains MDL Decompiler v0.5.2 fixed by Erix920 and StudioCompiler v0.3a

Written using NSIS v2.39

EDIT: Remember that this tool REQUIRES SourceSDK to be installed and Steam needs to be running for these applications to work.

EDIT-OrangeBox Note: I have personally tried to get both tools working with orange box to no avail. As both of them are not updated by their original authors anymore as well, i seriously doubt that they would work for orange box, though if someone manages to find a fix for that, leave me a message regarding how to and i'll implement it :).

EDIT: Fixed for latest steam revisions. MdlDecompiler & StudioCompiler now get installed to ep1. Functionality doesn't drop, but since these two don't support compiling for Orange Box, Compiling for models should be made with GUI StudioMDL by Wunderboy.

    @Pr0ph3cy

The engine has gone through a multitude of changes ever since I first posted this up.

I haven't been checking the software recently, Can I know what error you've been getting, What engine are you trying to use it for and anything else you might think is important?

EDIT: The tool has been updated on 10/10/2010

If you're running into problems in this current version, download the latest here.

Compiling support has been taken out due to the out-dated nature of the two applications.

For compiling use GUI StudioMDL instead

I cant get this to work for the life of me. I've tried everything, and i STILL get the crap about missing .dll's. I am on windows 7, does that change anything? Please get back to me, I really need this.

Posted by HaMsTeYr I see. My first question is, do you have orange box and normal half-life 2 installed? Secondly, if you only have normal HL2, whether you're running the tools under Orange Box Mode. What happens is that you can't run Orange Box Model Decompiler or Studio Compiler if you don't have Orange Box itself. Also, you need to have run your desired game at least once, and have SourceSDK and have run it before. Its not really a missing dll, but rather just a configuration error somewhere along the way. Source can get a little bit messy..

I have hl2 the orange box and everything u just said. i'm not sure if i have run hl2 on THIS computer yet i'll try that and let u know if it worked. ty

What exactly is the error message which you are getting? most of the time this error occurs because you installed it incorrectly

failed to start because vstdlib.dll is missing

I made this in hammer (from S SDK). And no, no DLL's there. :(

Now I've made the map bigger and my comp can't compile due to lack of RAM.

Edit: Omg, I'm so sorry for all the bother, I had just installed it in the folder the installer suggested. Found out now that it was the wrong folder. st00pid :q

Thank you for your help! :D Really appreciated.

Hmmm humour me one last time then. in the folder where both programs are installed, e.g.

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\hamsteyr\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin

    vstdlib.dll and tier0.dll aren't present? o.o and you're sure you've run source sdk before?

    Translate:

"StudioCompiler.exe - Could not fint component

The program could not start because vstdlib.dll doesn't excist. The problem may be solvet by installing the program again."

    Which it did not. :P
