First off you need to download mIRC, of course. You can get it <a href="http://www.mirc.com/get.html" target=_blank">here. Even though it says it is an evaluation version, after the 30-day period is over, mIRC will still function and operate just the same.

You may need to register at Photobucket to view the enlarged version Note: If the images are not being displayed properly it's because Photobucket is being a bugger, so refer to the screenshots as you normally would Once you have mIRC downloaded and extracted, run the mIRC.exe. You'll get a box asking you to register, if the "Continue" button is greyed-out just wait a few seconds until you can click it.

Now enter your information into the boxes. What you put where it says "Full name" will be seem when you are /whois'ed, so don't put anything private there. The e-mail address you put will be used when registering on some networks, so don't just put "sfasf@adsd.org." What to put in the nickname boxes is self-explanatory.

It's time to connect to the server! Simply type /server irc.gamesurge.net:6667.

Once the MOTD has been displayed and you can type again, type /join #fpsbanana. A new window will open and you can now chat with us here in the channel!

To further customize your IRC experience, feel free to change options by clicking the icon that looks like a hammer and a folder in the top bar. I suggest you don't change things you don't understand or you may inadvertently do something you probably shouldn't. You can also fully edit the color scheme by clicking the icon that looks like four crayons, also in the top bar.
