Modern Warfare 2: Max Co-Op 2

Infinity Ward spokesman Robert Bowling has revealed that the upcoming FPS Modern Warfare 2 will have a maximum of two players in the co-op game mode, which will be named, "Special Ops".

He was fairly specific:

Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That's when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things... We don’t do co-op in our story because we’re crafting a very specific experience and we don’t want to ruin that by cramming co-op into it... We take the moments that work really well with co-op, we bring them out and we put them in Special Ops.

Early thoughts show the co-op game mode to be similar to the bonus flight level from Call Of Duty 4. With co-op game play being based less on a strong storyline and focusing more on carrying out objectives and completing challenges.

I think this is a fantastic move as these days many game developers are trying to force games to have co-op even when they are better without. Having a maximum of two players means that multi-player gaming can be done, whilst still following an immersive storyline.

    Infinity Ward knows how to hit the sweet spot

    to bad there little brother treyarh get to profit on there success ( cod 5 ) massive fail after time as gone but i loved hard core mode but i think it toke away the potential of a realism mod even if it was the only game mod i would play on my 360 version

    Yeah :)

    I think it's a good move though, co-op can get crowded I find, so leave the huge player maps to regular multiplayer. All good! :D

    You will be able to on regular multiplayer, it;s just the story co-op mode which has the maximum restriction of 2 players. ;)

    I know, Which is gay.... At least we can play with more people online if you have a buddy over or something.

    I think this is a good move, hell I wasn't even expecting co-op, so any co-op is better than no co-op. I'd rather have a solid single-player, solid multiplayer, and a bonus co-op if I get bored, good move IW...

    Posted by Mr. Brightside To be honest I was really pissed when I heard they were only doing 2 player co-op on the Special Ops mission, but saying their reason, I fully agree. 2 people can play really well together, good tactics, team work. More than that and people start going off on their own and just fucking everything up, much like Left for Dead. Been looking forward to this ever since the first one came out, nice job infinity ward :D

    Yeah, most of the time, it is much easier to choose one of your best friends to do a mission and sometimes you wish you could play l4d as l"2"d, but the bots always wander off (ofc you can take them off but just saying). Two player is much easier to communicate with and they are probably looking @ a more concentrated approach rather than l4d or killing floor.

    I'm almost positive it's a modified Unreal 3 Engine.
