Gameinformer , america's leading gaming-magazine has released their new issue with a 12-paged feature about upcoming Portal 2.

These are the main information in short:

Development:

  • Valve calls the first game a "test", because they did not know how the community would react on the new concept. That is why they didn't put as much resources into it.
  • Portal 2 is beeing developt for 2 years as a fullprize-game now. With more budget, resources and time. The team has grown from 8 to 28 people.
  • Story:

  • The connections with other games like Half-Life 2 will not be continued because they want Portal 2 to have it's own storyline.
  • After the explosion in the original game, Chell will get put into a Chamber where she survives several hundreds of years. In the time between, the Companion Spheres you see around the cake evolve and develop their own artificial intelligenz. They try to keep the complex in shot, but after hunderds of years some parts are falling apart and overgrown with plants.
  • One of those little robots wake Chell, because they he needs her to repair something. Later you will also see GLaDOS, who is "Still Alive".
  • Gameplay:

  • The gameconcept is still the same as in the first game and the Portalgun has not been changed. It still shoots orange and blue portals.
  • But there will be alot of new elements like the fact, that physics now also work through portals.>/li>
  • Also, there will be some kind of "organic slime" that makes you faster and you can place it with portals, where you need it.
  • Special storage-cubes will have mirrors. With those you can reflect lasers
  • Coop:

  • In the coop-campaign you will both be a robot that is made of Companion Spheres and parts of a Sentry-Gun.
  • The full-length coop-campaign fits perfectly into the singleplayer campaign and you can choose wich one you want to play first.
  • Both players have their own Portalgun and the puzzles are going to be much more difficult than in the singleplayer mode.
  • Coop can be played with splitscreen or through the internet. If you decide to play online with a friend, you will see your friends picture in the bottom corner, so you can tell what he is doing, and where he is.
  • To make the communication easier, there will be a special commands menu, with that you can tell your friend where to place a portal.
  • Design:

  • Portal 2 is based on the Source-Engine. This has made a huge step forwards and feels alot more grown up.
  • The larger budget also allows a much more detailed design.
  • On some of the pictures you can see dynamic lighting. We will see if this is only for presentation or if we will really get this ingame.
  • If you want to read the full 12-paged feature buy the latest Issue of GameInformer.

If Valve use the same technology of L4D 1 & 2 this game will be just awesome!!!!!!!! :D They must use the last source engine. ^^

I'd wait until the Blue Box with HL2:Ep3, portal 2, Counter-Strike 2, and Left 4 Dead 4. And all the previous HL2 games + episodes.

This game sounds a bit like Bioshock 2. Maybe because I just finished it last night.

I didnt like portal that much. It felt like i was playing zelda but JUST doing puzzels, not really any fighting (with one exceptions). and turrets dont count as enemys; they're more like traps.

Hm, are there any spoilers? I don't want to read this and give stuff away before I play.

Posted by Sk4yt I do not like where this story is going. Valve missed a perfectly good chance to flesh out the Half-Life universe, imo.
Yeah I always saw the events of Portal happening before the resonance cascade. And come to think of it, the Borealis for gods sake. How fucking genius wouldn't it be if they linked those? A key element in the HL and HL2 story is TELEPORTATION. It caused the events of HL and the Combines fail at it and desperately need it in HL2. Think about it. The Borealis is a key interest point for the Combine and rebels for an unexplained reason, what else could this be than teleportation technology? Plus it has Aperture Science on the side. Like, SERIOUSLY? They're not gonna link them?

VALVe is probably laughing at your post. Its like mw2 for pc, they most likely WANT to take the fun out of it.

No one overreact, when was the last time a game story was EXACTLY what they first announced it to be? NEVER.
