Jump Propel

Author - Dane "Coffstah" Coffey

Steam ID - STEAM_0:0:4700808

An advanced soldier jump map. ~23 jumps that highlight a full variety of advanced soldier techniques, including a new soldier pogo technique I haven't seen in any other previous soldier jump maps.

My goal was to create challenging, continuous jumps that are completed in a single sequence of rockets, rather then basing difficulty on the ability to string a set of easier jumps together. The difficulty is staggered well, the jumps get progressively harder leading up to the end.

I hope this will inspire more people to create soldier jump maps, since there aren't very many challenging soldier maps out there.

Thanks to CJ for mapping testing/mapping help, the LC community for beta testing, and bob+M|M+ since the map was directly inspired by his set of jump maps.

This map is impossible since the March 5 update. The opening in "Potato Chips Jones" is too small to pass through even when crouching.

Pros: Fun jumps and good design. For your first map (i think) this is a very good map. I like this map and i have learnt most i know about rocket jumping from this map. Nice map Cons: You could take it further and add hdr. That would push it up a lot. Also you could spend more time on scenery and push that design from 8 to a 9/10. Improvements: More time on scenery. Experiment with lights more. Notes: I like this map, very fun. Keep making more.

Pros: -large number of jumps -great scalar difficulty through the map -creative and varied jumps -many different rjumping techniques -good aesthetic -good lighting -jump numbers/names Cons: -steep curve for newbies -sqaured Improvements: I can't say anything negative because the map was really well done - and nails its purpose.

I like the way textures change throughout the map to avoid the stale repetitive feeling you get in most maps, and I like how you utilize space as you progress through the jumps.

I think it is the best soldier map out there, and as such, the paradigm of how we should be creating our maps.

The only real variety you could add on your next map is using different shaped brushes. Everything is flat - at 90 or 180 degree angles. It is easier to construct the jumps that way, but you could enrich the textures and the aesthetics of the jumps just by straying from rectangular brushes.

What else is there to say, everyone should play this map.

Pros: I love this map. The jumps are innovative, well crafted, and brutally challenging. This map deserves the title as current #1 most difficult TF2 RJ map in the world.

Great lighting, good variety of environments, and overall quality map from start to finish.
Improvements: I think it would have been interesting if you also allowed demoman to complete the map, by using trigger_hurt in places such as the last jump.

A lot of the textures were scaled too large imo. Using displacements and a envfogcontroller would have also made a nice touch.

Notes: (Note for servers) This map does not work for auto balance servers. Red team is not available.

I'm glad that I could inspire you to make such a great map, and I'm sure that you will have a similar influence on many RJ maps to come.

I played it on the joe.to server and I couldn't beat level 3, but it is still very fun.
