KotH Blast is a King of the Hill map with cannons and death water. Great for full servers, and a ton of fun.

KotH Blast is a map I've been working on for the last couple of weeks with advice from my friend RUSSIA. Basically, the idea is to control the center point until your team's timer runs out. The CP is situated on top of a floating platform above a pool of water. There are four cannons on either side of the pool for each team; two of them fire players upward towards the point, and two fire players across to pool. Use them to traverse the map quickly. The pool in the middle sucks players down to the bottom, where they are killed. The name of the map comes from the "trigger_hurt" entity, as it applies "BLAST" damage to make players explode, and let their gibs float gently upwards.

Features include (but are not limited too): Cannons that fire players around the map. A King of the Hill CP to capture and defend. A pool of water that kills players. Five exits from the respawn room. Cover on the point and around the bases against snipers. Surprise for losing (loosing?) team: get dumped into the pool while the winning team slaughters you. Dark space behind respawns. Custom textures. Very high skybox. Lights that change on capture, depending on team. And more...

Video (Sorry for crap quality).

Currently B3. Only slight changes from B2, which played very well (privately hosted).

Needed: 3D Skybox. Displacements. Details (respawns, mainly). Fixing new end-game to work every time/right. Sniper holes in back wall. Anything else I can think of.

///Update to B3a\\ Packed custom textures into .BSP so servers won't have to tell their players to download the textures themselves.

Posted by SirLamer Notes: This is the most popular map on our server, and one of my personal favorites.

No kidding? You've found yourself a gem in the rough, man. Unfortunately I've lost the files for the original koth_blast, AND the name has been taken for a new map. I would love to resurrect this concept, though, and I may in the future given enough time.

    Hey, how's it going?

Pros: - A wonderfully fun and unique koth map. - Somehow makes spawn camping an appropriate and not frustrating tatict. Cons: - Implements KOTH gameplay using custom Lua script instead of official KOTH mode. Improvements: - Upgrade the map to include GUI elements from the recently released KOTH mode. - Make the across-the-pond long jump mechanisms easier to use. - Expand on this great map with some more developed art and theming. Notes: This is the most popular map on our server, and one of my personal favorites.

Pros: Player-launching cannons are always neat The platforms have a good aesthetic design to them. Cons: A single sentry built up top is far, far too difficult to take care of, due to it's firing range encompassing the ENTIRE system of platforms. Spawn camping seems encouraged in this map? Having all of the combat in the map (excluding the spawn camping) take place on such a small, isolated area kind of takes the fun out of it. About half the time, the man launchers fail, leading to a swift, humiliating death in the lake. Death lake is more obnoxious than amusing. Improvements: Expand the network of platforms. Limit where sentries can be built. Consider less lethal alternative with the death lake. Might be more fun if it just pulled you down, but didn't kill at the bottom, and players were forced to trudge to some stairs at either side of the pool before they drown?
