Boogz SHottie replacement for TF2

by ATF_BooGiTyBoY

Yes another shotgun skin. I know there's lots of wood handled, darker shotties out here, but this one is mine :P. Been using this one for a while and a friend or two asked for it so I figured I'd upload it regardless of how original it is. :)

Installation: Extract the file into your team fortress 2 folder.

Default path is usually: c:/Program files > steam > steamapps > your account name > team fortress 2

to uninstall:

Go into your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\your user name\team fortress 2\tf\materials/models/weapons folder.

Delete v_shotgun folder

The file structure of the mod is broken. If you explore into the directory tree, you'll see that there is 2 "v_shotgun" folders. Just letting you guys know.

    Fine, here.

The wood looks like a material overlay, and even worse, you didn't desature it, so default textures and colors are popping up. I checked, and there's no .vmt, which allows bumpmaps.

The metals do not look good, and are alos material overlays. Try to "texture in" your textures.

    Overall, not too good.

    Happy?

Im all for constructive criticism, but I fail to see how the design I put on the gun makes it "too personal" :)

Posted by MrMuffinMan the wood on this one looks to realistic. Try making the wood smoother and less detailed.

You give me a 6 for detail, then tell me to make it less so?

    Confoozled on that one ;)

    Anyway thanx for the assessment!

It's a good skin, but it does not fit TF2's art direction. All TF2 have a hand painted look, the wood on this one looks to realistic. Try making the wood smoother and less detailed.

The decal is a nice touch, but putting decals on guns like you do makes it a bit too personal.

(I can't say anything about the technical stuff because I'm no expert with textures)

Ill try those suggestions. Thanks :)

Also Stealthy, I checked out some of your skins, and normals aren't always a good thing. Half of your TF2 stuff looks like its made of plastic.

I actually do a bit of extras, but work on the .vmt, it should look like this:

    "VertexLitGeneric" { "$baseTexture" "models\weapons\vshotgun/vshotgun" "$bumpmap" "models\weapons\vshotgun/vshotgun_normal" }

No matter how I make them. I cant seem to make a normal for this model without the sides looking like reflective mirrors... And it may not be covered with pasted on crap like most other skins, but I did add my own little details there. :P

Have you tried other VMT parameters like envmaptint to tone down the reflectivity? Specmaps don't do all the work you know.

I could take a look at it for you if you want. I haven't even begun working with TF2 skins for the most part but I do a lot of my own personal skinning (mainly creating normalmaps for custom skins by others) for CSS and HL2.
