PRIMARY: SMG with Rapid Fire SECONDARY: Pistol with Tactical Knife EQUIPMENT: Throwing Knife
PERK 1: Marathon PERK 2: Lightweight PERK 3: Commando
Explanation: This setup is useful on smaller maps where you can run around like a psycho, hence the name. With unlimited sprint and fast sprint you are much harder to hit and reach people much quicker - with commando you can knife from further away making you formidable if you're fast footed and like knifing. I've got some of my highest ever killstreaks with this setup, not to mention how fun it is to play with. Using a pistol with TacKnife attachment you knife uber fast which makes you all that more deadly close up.
PRIMARY: Riot Shield SECONDARY: Dual Model 1887s EQUIPMENT: Blast Shield SPECIAL GRENADE: Smoke
PERK 1: Marathon PERK 2: Lightweight PERK 3: Commando
Explanation: This setup is more to help out your fellow players than help yourself - although I have got very high point counts when using this class. It is useful on games like HQ & Search and Destroy where you have to hold a point for an amount of time - it pisses people off because if you back into a corner with your shield you are a pain to kill and you can hold your objective. You are most vulnerable when moving (especially running) so to get you where you want fast have Marathon and Lightweight, which is also good for rushing someone when they reload. Commando is a must have for shield users as it makes melee attacks possible from a longer range, making you a MUCH more formidable opponent when met face to face. Put your blast shield on immediately when you spawn to help protect from explosions. The smoke is an awesome part of this setup because if you need to attack with this class you can smoke the objective and then run in through the cover - the scariest thing when you're playing is to see a shield wielding warrior running at you through the smoke. Dual 1887s are formidable at close - medium range and are my favourite dual weapon for CQB in the game. Main tip - CROUCH! This will shield your whole body from bullets when you stay still; also use corners as strong points, when you are in a corner you are very well protected. Also, a useful tip is to face to the right of danger and run towards it using forward and left - this covers up the vast majority of your body and allows you to sprint towards a target while under cover.
PRIMARY: MP5K with Rapid Fire SECONDARY: Akimbo 1887's EQUIPMENT: Semtex
PERK 1: Sleight of Hand PERK 2: Lightweight PERK 3: Steady Aim
Explanation: My all time favourite class - armed with the cowboy classic lever action 1887's. They are probably the most understated weapon in this game and are far better than I first thought. The power is so much that one shot will usually kill (will always kill on Hardcore) and the range is actually pretty amazing considering they are shotguns. Steady Aim will further increase your aim and will also mean that if and when you have to switch to the MP5K you can just spray and pray close range - as this is where you will no doubt be - CQB. Lightweight is for those quick bursts of speed when in the open or closing in on an enemy - very useful; I used to combine this with marathon but I found I was spending too much time running and not enough time aiming and I kept getting caught out and shot before I could stop and shoot. So instead, Sleight of Hand is used to quicken the insanely long reload time that these rifles have. Semtex is my close range grenade of choice as it has a shorter fuse and the sticky can be very useful. TIP - Don't shoot both guns simultaneously! Shoot alternate guns, that way if you miss your first shot or need a finishing shot you have one ready. The only time you should shoot both together is if the enemy is at your maximum range and you need both for a kill. This is by far my favourite setup in MW2 and not to mention the animations just look fucking ridiculously amazing.
PRIMARY: Sniper Rifle with Silencer SECONDARY: Machine Pistol with Silencer EQUIPMENT: Claymores
PERK 1: Marathon PERK 2: Cold Blooded PERK 3: Steady Aim or Ninja
Explanation: This setup is useful for all those campers and snipers who like to sneak to their spot and then unleash the sniper mayhem undiscovered. Marathon helps you to get to your spot quickly without being spotted and Cold Blooded helps you stay undetected while you are there. Using Steady Aim (upgraded) gives you more than twice the length of time you can hold your breath whilst aiming which helps a lot, although Ninja will make you invisible to heartbeat sensors. Both are useful for this setup so choose wisely. Claymores are useful for covering your 6.
PRIMARY: Sniper Rifle with Silencer & Heartbeat Sensor SECONDARY: Machine Pistol with Silencer & RDS EQUIPMENT: Claymores
PERK 1: Bling Pro PERK 2: Cold Blooded PERK 3: Ninja
Explanation: This class is a slight variation of my first sniper setup, although I use this one more. Bling pro is invaluable for this, as it gives you a silencer for both weapons, helping to keep your position secret. The second attachment I put on the rifle is a Heartbeat Sensor as it is VERY useful for telling if anyone is sneaking up on you, and if things do get a little close for comfort you can easily tell where enemies are and avoid them or take them out quietly in CQB as a last resort. With Bling Pro I add a RDS to the machine pistol which makes it a very reliable backup weapon. Since when you are sniping you should only hold your breath once you have spotted someone, there is not a huge need for a longer breath time as your enemy should be dead pretty quickly after you've laid eyes on them - if not you're doing it wrong. Because of this I am using Ninja for my third perk, and combined with Cold Blooded and your silencers, you will be completely invisible to radar, heartbeat sensors, enemy air support and thermals, which will help you stay alive.
PRIMARY: Assault Rifle with Grenade Launcher SECONDARY: Thumper EQUIPMENT: Frag
PERK 1: Scavenger PERK 2: Danger Close PERK 3: Sit Rep
Explanation: First off, you will get a LOT of abuse from other players if you use this setup but fuck it, it gets you FUCK loads of kills. Use scavenger to keep your grenades and 203's topped up and SitRep to see where enemy explosives are - this is helpful as if you can aim at them they will add to the explosive damage of your shot. Danger Close is going to be your biggest help here as all explosive damage is increased. This setup is especially useful when lots of enemies will be grouped together - on games like HQ and Domination etc. Go forth and pwn fellow noobs!
PRIMARY: Assault Rifle with RDS SECONDARY: Stinger Missile EQUIPMENT: Semtex
PERK 1: Sleight of Hand PERK 2: Cold Blooded PERK 3: Ninja
Explanation: This is a fairly simple setup which I never choose as a primary class to use. I only ever switch to it if the opposition calls in air support. The stinger is used as the main anti air weapon as you get 2 shots with it and it is heat seeking. The aiming is sped up with Sleight of hand which helps as the missile launchers can be heavy and slow to aim. Cold Blooded is the main perk used here as it will keep you invisible to the air support so you can shoot it down without being in danger from it. The last perk is just my choice as not showing on heartbeat sensors and no footsteps is always a good thing to have. Harriers are the only air support which only need 1 shot, all others have flares which they will fire to misguide the missile, then you will need the second - that's why the stinger is so important.
PRIMARY: ACR with Silencer & Holographic Sight SECONDARY: TMP with Silencer & RDS EQUIPMENT: Claymores
PERK 1: Bling Pro PERK 2: Cold Blooded PERK 3: Ninja
Explanation: This is my default setup when I'm not in the mood to use a particularly specialised class setup. It is good for attacking, defending and basically every play style out there. The silencer along with Cold Blooded perk means you are pretty much invisible, the claymores can cover your back or HQ positions and Bling Pro perk allows you to add a Holographic sight to your ACR for accuracy and a silencer to your TMP. The ACR is insanely accurate so is good for medium - long range and the TMP has a crazy rate of fire and is awesome in CQB - so you've covered all angles. Ninja goes in combination with Cold Blooded to make you pretty much invisible which I find very useful.
REWARD 1: Harrier Strike or Attack Helicopter REWARD 2: Chopper Gunner or AC130 REWARD 3: Tactical Nuke
Explanation: This is the setup I used when I got my first Nuke. The basic point to the killstreaks chosen is high kill count. Be sure to find a safe place when you are using Chopper Gunner or AC130 and if you have it cover your back with a claymore too. The main drawback to this setup is that you are left vulnerable for a short period while you manning the Chopper Gunner or AC130 - but that's matched by the fucking ludicrous kill count that is achievable.
REWARD 1: Attack Helicopter REWARD 2: Pavelow REWARD 3: Tactical Nuke
Explanation: This is also another useful setup to get the Nuke. It's better than the first setup in some ways because all rewards are automated and you aren't left vulnerable while you use your little laptop to control it. However, you probably wont get as many kills as with the first setup where you can control the attack.
Explanation: This tactic isn't used enough in MW2 and whenever I do it, I get lots of cheap and easy kills. Best used with the Jack The Ripper setup and you've got the speed, and a knife in the back is a satisfying way to take out half of the enemy team in a few quick attacks. Most maps have good routes for flanking.
Explanation: COOK THEM! Any pro gamer will cook his grenades before he throws them. It has 2 benefits - the enemy can't throw it back at you and they will also have less time to get out of the explosive radius. Any player above level 2 should be doing this. Obviously, cook for different times depending on how far away your target is - this will effect the cook time when going through the air. So for targets further away cook for a little less time than close range targets.
Explanation: The best game mode for this is Free-for-all or Groundwar. These game types will give you lots of people to shoot and and in Free-for-all you don't need to worry about friendly fire as everyone is your enemy!
Explanation: Use it! Anything that gets in the way of you and the sights of your enemy is useful. Although various things can be penetrated you should always use the cover surrounding you when moving around. Just think, if you're shooting at a group of people and one of them ducks behind cover you're going to aim for someone else - use this to your advantage. Also, a BIG tip that I see practically no one doing when I play is lie down when you a getting your care package! The crate acts as cover and you're much less likely to get owned while getting your crate and getting it stolen by the enemy. Finally, always hit the prone button when you get stunned or flashed, this gives you cover and makes you a smaller target and the rushing enemy might even rush straight past you.
Explanation: Get to know them! Look for spots that suit your style of play – sniping spots, clever corners to wait for the next passing prey, enclosed alleyways which will funnel your enemies into easily killed masses. Maps are designed by Infinity Ward and they took time to design lots of useful areas which are meant to be used and abused. Take advantage of what has been given to you, bullet penetration, sniping spots, quite points to create lulls in the battle so you can reassess your situation, reload etc. A good tactic to learn maps is play a few private matches with some mates – you can all explore it together and point out any awesome spots that you find – and that way you can explore without someone popping a cap in your ass. A player who knows a map well is a formidable opponent compared to someone who just runs around going where he thinks looks nice. You should know which routes to take - quickest routes, safest routes, most commonly used routes and most enclosed or open routes depending on your situation and destination. All these things should be thought about when you are moving around the map.
Explanation: Sentries can be deadly weapons that can fend off a whole team of attackers but they can also be easily taken out if you know how. When placing your sentry gun, make sure you place right up near a wall with its back against it, this will keep from people sneaking up on it and if you can place it facing out of a corner even better. If you can, stay near your sentry gun to make sure no one can get close enough for a melee kill. Placing sentries in concealed spaces is often useful - tall grass where their exact position is hard to find by the enemy, high ground - sentry guns have an insane range of fire. On the other hand, when faced with a sentry gun mowing down your whole team, they can be easy to take out. If you have Cold Blooded perk then it wont sense you and you can easily run at it and take it out in one easy swoop with any melee. If you don’t have Cold Blooded, then you should try and sneak around it to get the melee in, or I have found Marathon and Lightweight can easily get you close enough before it gets you in its sights. I don’t use sentries as they require a care package to be dropped and this always makes you vulnerable.
Explanation: Killstreak rewards in MW2 can be stacked – a change from COD4. This means that if you get a killstreak reward when you already have one which you haven’t used, it is added to the stack of waiting rewards. This can be very useful because you shouldn’t feel forced to use a streak immediately when you get it. Wait until the best moment – when the enemy team spawn and are bunched up, when your HQ is about to be overrun, when you need to attack a point which could use an airstrike. You should note that it is a stack not a queue so you will get the highest killstreak rewards FIRST - so if you got a UAV, Harrier Strike and Pavelow, the first used would be Pavelow, the the Harrier strike then the UAV. Beware when using laptops you are very vulnerable, so find a spot to go prone – tall grass, a quite spot on the map, a dark corner somewhere. Also, one tip not many people know – EMPs can disable Nukes!
Explanation: The trick to perks is to learn what you like and find out which ones suit your style of play best then use them to your advantage. I like sneaking around being silent, so I tend to use Bling Pro which means I can have a sight AND a silencer, Cold Blooded Pro which makes me invisible to radar, thermal and air support; and Ninja pro which makes me invisible to heartbeat sensors and gives me silent footsteps. This can be a winning combination – but only if you play to suit your perk selection. If you are constantly running around with your akimbo 1887's, gunning people in the face these perks would be useless.. you would then choose perks to suit that style of play (e.g. Sleight of Hand, Lightweight and Steady Aim) In MW2 perks can be upgraded when used a lot, this is useful because the upgrades are of similar types to those that which the basic perk was. So for Bling which allowed 2 attachments to your primary weapon, Bling Pro allows 2 attachments to your secondary, and so on. I would say it is best to try out all of the perks at least once, you may think you wont like one but you might just be surprised.
Feel free to suggest other tips to be added. Enjoy!
